What information we collect and why

We want to make your experience at IKEA great, and our operations to run smoothly. To do this we collect several types of information about you.

Types of information we collect from you: Bookings, services, information queries and CCTV

When you make a request or a booking at IKEA Museum or when you are placing an order via our website, we collect and process your personal data in order to handle your request. IKEA Museum uses CCTV surveillance. The types of personal data we process are described in the table below.

Purposes: To make reservation so that we can provide the requested services.

Legal basis: Necessary for the performance of a contract or in order to take steps at your request to enter into a contract.

Sources: Provided by you when you pay for the services.
Purposes: To receive customers’ payments for the services.
Legal basis: Necessary for the performance of a contract or in order to take steps at your request to enter into a contract.

Sources: Provided by you when sending your information request.
Purposes: To provide you with information on request on exhibitions, offers and events at IKEA Museum or on the museum in general.
Legal basis: Legitimate interest (to serve our visitors and customers).

Sources: Provided by you when you used IKEA Museum services in the past.
Purposes: To provide you with information on our initiative on future exhibitions, offers and events at IKEA Museum or on the museum in general.
Legal basis: Legitimate interest (to serve our visitors and customers).

Sources: We film the material ourselves with CCTV cameras at IKEA Museum.
Purposes: To prevent crime and create a safe environment for guests and employees. In the event of an incident, the recorded material may be used for internal and/or external crime investigation.

How long we keep your personal data

We will keep your personal data only for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes we collected it for, and do not keep your information for longer than one year after the relationship has ended or when you request that we remove the information. In some cases we may keep your data longer than stated above for the purpose of satisfying a legal requirement.

How we keep your personal information safe

We protect your information from all kinds of threats: destruction, loss, alteration, unauthorised disclosure or access. We do this in a variety of ways depending on where we store and use the information.

With whom do we share your data

We will only provide your personal data to third parties, such as with payment service providers, if this is necessary for the execution of our agreement with you. These third party service providers have access to personal information needed to perform their functions, but may not use it for other purposes. In addition, we have entered into data processing agreement with companies that process your data on our behalf to ensure the same level of security and confidentiality of your data.

International transfers

Your personal data is usually stored within the European Economic Area (EEA), so you can be sure your data is saved in a country with adequate privacy safeguards. If we need to transfer data outside of the EEA, we will only do so if this is possible from a legal and regulatory standpoint. For example:

Right of access

You have the right to know what personal data we process and why. That’s why we inform you in advance about our processing activities via this statement. Right to rectification

If you believe we have collected and stored incorrect data about you, such as your name or address, you can ask us to correct this.

Right to erasure / right to be forgotten

You have the right to tell us to permanently erase your personal data from our records. You can do this, for example, if you believe there’s no longer any need for us to keep it. Or, if you have previously have given your consent, you can just decide to withdraw it.

Right to restrict the processing activities

You have the right to ask us to restrict our processing activities in certain situations. This means we will continue to store your information, but we’ll temporarily stop any other processing. Why would you want to do this? For example, if you’ve asked us to rectify incorrect information. In this situation you may want us to stop processing your data until the information is correct.

Right to data portability

In certain situations you have the right to ask us to send your personal information in digital form to you, so that you can forward it to someone else.

Right to object

You have the right to ask us to object to the processing of your information, even when we have a legitimate legal reason to process it. You can do this when we process your information on the basis of our legitimate interest, and you believe that your personal interest outweighs ours. If you do not want us to use your information for direct marketing purposes, including profiling, we will comply in any case.

Right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority

If you are not satisfied with the way we use your personal information, you have the right to lodge a complaint about us to the national supervisory authority.
